Review: Many of us struggle with emotional and mental issues that weigh us down and make us unhappy. Tara Mae Temple gently guides you through the Three-Elements-of-Ease to help reframe your mindset, promote healing, and nurture compassion. She shares the trials she has faced in life and how she implemented change to discover her authentic self. With her wisdom and the exercises provided in the book, you can learn to overcome emotional struggles, prioritize the positive, and find peace.
I don't often read non-fiction books that claim to offer up strategies for overcoming negative thoughts and finding inner peace. I find they're too aggressive, in your face with their tactics, and don't generally connect with me. They're all about hashtag words and more about the author themselves. Life Hacks for Healing & Harmony is different. It takes a more gentle approach and has you going forward with compassion for not only others but for yourself. Tara Mae does talk about her experiences, but they don't comprise the bulk of the book. The world needs more of this rather than the need to conquer everything including yourself.
Several issues are discussed through the book including complicated familial issues, problems with self-image, the desire for approval, illness, and grief. Tara Mae shares her experiences and how she struggled with not thinking there would ever be a way out. Her journey took years and is still on-going, which is not only realistic but inspiring. (I greatly appreciate the realism.) She also talks about what it was like growing up as a minority (she is Filipino-Canadian) and her strong faith. In each chapter, there are exercises for the reader to help tackle their issues. Be aware that Tara Mae's faith guides her in many things, but the suggestions offered are not faith-based and are accessible to everyone. Some might sound easy, but breaking out of the negative spiral is no simple thing. Every step makes a difference. I particularly liked that a variety of suggestions are offered, and Tara Mae takes into account that not all people have the same financial or mobility means. In this, she shows her compassion for others.
Each chapter ends with a positive affirmation, and the reader is encouraged to create their own. There is sympathy and tenderness in these pages, and a genuine wish to help other people. I recommend this book to readers who have had no luck with life hack books that have you charging in like a raging warrior, but to those who need a path of kindness and mercy in their healing and building of their authentic self.
