Review of The Librarian of the Haunted Library

Blurb: My escape from a creepy clown lands me in a town straight out of a fever dream. And guess what? I become the new librarian after my predecessor is murdered ( a not uncommon end for librarians I find out too late) right in front of me. My first task is to find the killer.

Shouldn’t be too hard since it happened right in front of me, right? Wrong. The suspects are a town full of Supernatuals, including but not limited witches, magicians, ghosts, a werewolf, a grumpy gargoyle, a zombie, a mad scientist and four teenagers.

Did I mention that I might be the Chosen One according to some people in the know? Unfortunately, in this case Chosen One means the one destined to bring about the apocalypse. Guess whose son that makes me?

Review: Kevin has had a rough life being tossed from one foster home to another. His third eye lets him see things, but it only makes life more complex. After one strange encounter with a clown, Kevin ends up in Eden. It's a small town full of Supernaturals, and it maybe doesn't exist. The town's librarian is killed in the same cafe as Kevin, and Kevin is made the new librarian. Now it's his job to investigate the case, except it seems almost everyone is a suspect. Will Kevin be able to figure out who killed the former librarian or will he be the next victim?

This is the first book in the hilarious and quirky speculative fiction series, Strangely Scary Funny. That series name really does sum it up! The story reads like something similar to LOST or FROM with a touch of Terry Pratchett and David Lynch thrown in for good measure. Kevin is a survivor, and having to learn that from being a child in the foster system, it prepares him for what comes in the little town of Eden. His third eye is open and so he sees more than the average person, and he may also be the son of the devil whose name is Karl. Being Karl's son would make him the Chosen One, and Kevin really doesn't want the job to bring the apocalypse. There is a big cast of marvelously weird characters. Witches, sorcerers, ghosts, zombies, a headless lady, and four strangely normal teens. Everyone in town has secrets, and I can't wait to explore Eden further with the new librarian.
