Blurb: Charli Quinn and her sister Brielle own House Witches Cleaning and promise to clean like magic. They may not be your everyday, run-of-the-mill witches, but they are... something.
When Charli finds the husband of one of their clients dead, the wind warns her to beware the man with eyes of green. As the sisters search for the ominous man, they find themselves in danger and rely on their real magic to outsmart the killer.
Along the way, Charli and Brielle have help from a group of fairies, and even a talking cow. And Charli falls head over broomstick for a tall, sexy deputy with dreamy blue eyes who saves her from being hijacked by a water sprite.
Of course, it wouldn't be Texas without tacos.
Review: The Quinn sisters own a cleaning service in which they not only clean their clients' houses but also the negative energy in their lives. Charli and Brielle each have their own powers, and they work together well. When one of their clients' husbands are found murdered, the sisters work together with a handsome deputy and some magical friends to unravel the mystery before someone else is hurt. Yet have they gotten themselves into a situation that not even their magic can save them from?
Last week, I was struck by the spring cleaning bug, and Kilgore's novel went along with it perfectly. This is the first book in the fun and light-hearted paranormal mystery series, the House Witches Mystery. It's pure clean fun and whimsy. The sisters do actually clean houses. They even gave me a few ideas of things to add to cleaning solutions and how to make little basket herb gardens. They do clean away negative energy too. Like suggesting to give away items with bad energy or chasing off mean spirits.
While we get narratives from both of the Quinn sisters, the story mostly focuses on Charli. She's the younger of the two and has a huge heart. She learns more about herself and her powers, and falls for a gorgeous deputy. The romance happens pretty quickly, but they both want to get to know each other more before it gets too serious. There are a lot of layers to the mystery in the small Texas town, and I had no idea where the plot was going to take me. I loved the wonderful magical moments like with the fairies in the boy's garden and talking to the cows.
