Review for The Tenth

Blurb: Being buried alive is just the beginning.

Emerging from a cardboard coffin with no memory of her past, Sky knew only three things:

One. Someone had buried her alive.

Two. She saw things nobody else could see.

Three. To find out how she ended up there, she’ll need to remember.

But taken in by the three men that run the cemetery she found herself in, she wasn’t sure anymore if she wanted any of her old life back.

That was, until her visions turned bloody.

Now she must unearth her past to figure out if she is going insane or if something more is happening. Because she may have cheated death once, but she might not be so lucky the next time.

My review: Sky digs her way out of a shallow grave and not only can't remember who put her there, but she can't even recall her own name. Yet someone had to have put her there. She's lucky enough to have the help of the men who work at the funeral home beside the cemetery, but is their good will true or an illusion? What's more, are the dead who are haunting her just harmless ghosts or something much more sinister?

This was a short horror tale, but it was not lacking in the chills and suspense. We're thrust right into the story with Sky waking in a cardboard coffin. She doesn't know how she got there or why someone put her there. And it makes you wonder if it's something you want her to recall! The tension is thick and doesn't let up. Many times I was wondering if Sky is being honest or being tricked or, even more horrifying, if it's all real. The helpfulness of the three kind men in the funeral home made me wonder too. Who to trust? What was most captivating was the nightmare images created by the author. The terrifying dreams, the ghosts, sinister little sounds, the queasy feeling that something just isn't right. It spectacularly unravels to reveal the truth, and it kept me guessing right to the end. It was marvelously written.
